  • How Much Does a Lesson cost?
    All Classes are £5
  • What will I learn?
    Judo is a physical sport, your first lesson will teach you how to fall safely, throw an opponent with control and pin an opponent who you have just thrown.
  • Who is Judo for?
    Judo is for everyone Judo caters for all ages 5-105 Judo can be adapted to suit various disabilities
  • How do I Join?
    Simply call, text or drop us an email, OR turn up at the venue a few minutes before your class is about to start and we should be able to accommodate you.
  • What do i need to bring to my first class?
    Yourself Water Jogging bottoms or similar T-shirt We will provide you a loan judogi (judo uniform) until you decide to purchase your own.
  • What are the Physical Benefits of Judo?
    Judo will increase your overall fitness, coordination, balance, stamina, strength, you will loose weight if also following a good diet.
  • What are the mental Benefits of doing Judo?
    Judo trains you to think under pressure, and overcome mental obstacles. Judo can offer you a satisfied feeling that very few other martial arts and sports can come close to.
  • Will judo make me a better person?
    Jigoro Kano (judos founder) based his art on a strong moral code, which is aimed at making us better people on and off the mat. You will learn how to carry yourself as a better person, learning respect, modesty, courage, courtesy, honour, honesty, self control and friendship.
  • Where to Purchase a Judogi?
    The Club can provide good quality judogis for yourselves at an extremely competitive price, however if you do want to buy your own elsewhere please ensure it is suitable for judo, a lot of other martial arts gis are not strong enough to withstand the forces and torques applied through our awesome throws.
  • What is a BJA judo licence?
    A British Judo licence, covers yourself and others with insurance. It is necessary to have some form of licence to continue judo after your 4 week trial period. Your licence also allows you to grade under the BJA syllabus. Licences can be acquired from www.britishjudo.org.uk and heading to the membership section. Prices are on the BJA website, if you want to grade ensure you select a Full licence
  • What are the 8-16year old grades?
    Mon Grades- a belt with 3 stripes is equivalent to that colour as an adult Kyu grade 1st mon- red belt 1 yellow stripe 2nd mon- red belt 2 yellow stripes 3rd mon- red belt 3 yellow stripes 4th mon- yellow belt 1 red stripe ............ this continues all the way to 18th mon orange belt green belt blue belt brown belt 18th mon is a brown belt 3 red stripes
  • What are the Judo Grades 5-7years old?
    The Sho grades red yellow orange green blue purple brown black red/white (note we do not award this belt when they reach go for the black belt we Grade them the same as a full adult Red belt)
  • What are the adult grades?
    The adult Kyu grades are- red yellow orange green blue brown
  • How Long until I can get a black belt?
    We can grade you to the rank of brown belt, after this you will have to forge your own path, with our guidance of course. There are 2 ways to achieve your 1st Dan (black belt) Competetive- which involves winning 10 matches against other brown belts and a technical examination. Technical- a 5 year time period after recieving brown of studying judo and then an even tougher technical examination than a competitive dan grade. But remember 2 things- "a black belt is a white belt who never quit" "you don't earn a black belt you become it"
  • I don't want to compete. is judo still for me?
    Judo is for everyone, however competition is not. we will encourage any one that wants to test there mettle on the mat to give it a go. However don't let this dishearten you, the BJA have a technical Dan grade route which allows you to achieve the coveted Black belt without the risks of competitive judo.
  • Where can I enter competitions?
    Ask at your club for any details of any local competitions coming up, every time we here of an upcoming competition it will also be listed on the events page.
